Welcome to Ms. McLaughlin's Kindergarten Class
at the Brown School!
In Ms. McLaughlin's half-day Kindergarten class, we are a busy bunch! Please feel free to check out our website to see some fun things we are up to.
Follow our year in pictures!
Below, you will see us exploring math materials, making name caterpillars, highlighting sight word books, spelling sight words with magnetic letters, playing outside, reading, practicing handwriting, doing an apple taste test, sorting pictures by numbers of syllables, putting letters in alphabetical order, making scientific predictions about our class pumpkin, using our iPads (donated by the Newburyport Education Foundation), sorting buttons, writing and ordering numerals, making Native American necklaces and vests, showing the numeral '5' in any way (drawing turkeys was a popular choice!), making a David's star ornament, painting watercolors on white crayon, exploring Geoblocks, and
Ms. McLaughlin saying good-bye to our twins who are moving! Good luck boys - we'll all miss you!
Also, check us out as we sing in music class, make number sticker books, practice handwriting with our Handwriting Without Tears chalkboards, spell more sight words with magnetic letters, use iPads for literacy, read a sight word book together, use unifix cubes to show two numbers that add up to ten, make 'trains' of 100 unifix cubes by connecting ten sticks of ten, make paper dragons to celebrate Chinese New Year, learn about Mat Man (from Handwriting Without Tears) from our school's occupational therapist Mrs. Vecchio, get a visit from Zero the Hero on the 100th day of school, attend a science assembly where our very own Ray gets to volunteer!, do 100-number mazes, hand out Valentines, write on a new kind of writing paper that has a check-off list at the bottom to help us remember writing rules, pick coins out of a mystery bag and help our partners identify which kinds of coins they are, listen to a story read by our parent reader Maddie's mom Nicole, celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, engage in asking questions during a show and share, read Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems, listen to a story read by our parent reader Olivia's mom Kerriann, use square tiles and white boards to show pairs of numbers that add up to fifteen, and get a very fun visit from author/illustrator Michelle Nelson-Schmidt.
And now it's spring! We are painting spring water-color pictures, using our classroom computers and iPads, watching a performance by the talented Tanglewood Marionettes, making patterns, listening to stories read by our parent readers Ray's mom Kristen and Richie's mom Mindy, exploring geo-boards, playing outside on the school playground, making tiles with clay and natural materials, listening to stories read by our parent readers Riley's mom Jill and Carragh's mom Brigid, engaging in a domino math activity, and being visited by Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center for indoor tide-pooling.
